5 Reasons Why Stress is Not Bad
How to get rid of stress
Ever worried, ever stressed?
The answer lies in the very fact that the grey matter which you are born with is capable of making you experience every possible emotion you can think of.
During good moments, you rejoice in happy feelings that occur naturally for something good happening to you. But what happens when you leap into the trap of adversities? A cluster of haphazard, inevitable thoughts starts popping up in your head, leaving you to ponder over how to shoo them away. Though the severity of unwanted, unsolicited stress may vary from person to person but no one likes even a bit of it. Isn’t it?
So you surf the internet to find ways which will curb your anxiety, completely sure that it is you who is staggering along the infamous tension track. This is why internet is flooded with such articles, the most clichéd one being along the lines, ‘How to be Happy?’
Or you approach your friends and discuss your situation in sardonic details. Certainly, they won’t leave without closing the discussion with their expert advice, often inundated with ‘you should’. Even worse, you agree with those ‘shoulds’ and start compromising on yourself – a little here, a little there, only to attain the illusive symbol of perfection.
But have you really benefited from those tips…ever? I am sure not because trying to do ideal tasks when one is not even in his natural healthy frame can only leave him more miserable.
Imagine what you are getting out of this, ‘stress over stress’.
But here is the stereotype breaker which will change your perception about your stress condition outright and make you realize why you should stop seeking any stress relieving method.
The new outlook is called ‘being-stressed-being-happy’. It simply means being aware of the fact that it is completely alright if you are tense at any moment for any reason. Felt relieved, right? Let me elaborate this in 5 simple points
1) Stress is not permanent. The biggest reason why stress is not something to be so serious about is the fact that no problem lasts too long. Even despite the momentous problems, life also offers other things on the way to soften the brutality slowly.
2) Stress is a normal human behavior. If you covet the happy-go-lucky antics of people who boastfully advocate the art of happiness, it is to tell you that this social tactic is actually misguiding you into believing that being stressed is an evil thing. Whereas, the truth is that everyone at some time or the other posses stress including those, who conceitedly say ‘they never take stress’ as if it was their choice. ‘You don’t take it, you have it’. So why to feel guilty about it.
3) Stress is motivating. Out of two types of motivation – positive and negative, stress falls under the later one. Fortunately, for most of us, negative motivation bodes better than the positive one to achieve a mission. You might have realized that stress makes you think on serious terms. You do more hard work under the fear of the consequences which might turn you defeated and unhappy. Hence, stress in small doses is more of a stimulator to put you into action.
4) Stress makes you value the things that matter. Quite always, you are so occupied with reveling in the pleasant things that the other picture of the situation is overlooked. It is as practical as neglecting the importance of light until an encounter with darkness. Stressful situations not only make you realize the dearth of what is missing but also get you closer to the things which were of little importance before. It could be the company of your family, a candid talk with a friend or even a walk in the park.
5) Stress helps you understand yourself. The trait of never getting stressed might sound too ideal and endearing but it also signifies passivity. Imagine a person rejoicing in whatever thing coming along his way, embracing every situation and never feeling the slightest need to combat. Would he ever feel the need to go out of the way and make things work how he wanted them to? Stress makes you realize what is that which falls in your bad books. It makes you introspect and define your liking and disliking, taste and distaste, the unique combination of which is perfectly you.
To sum up, everything that happens on its own has a purpose. If you start treating your stress as one of your normal, temporary feelings rather than a big real demon, you would be able to attain a peaceful and mature state midst of all odds. So when stressed, say to yourself, ‘I know, it will pass.”
“The more you escape me, the more you will fall into me.” – Stress
