Crime Reports and the Cops

The ever happening crimes in India make it very relevant for common public to glean that there is always a source of negligence on the part of police Administration. But the reports which keep wobbling beyond the scope of the people tip the scales more in favor of the police subordinates than the government.

It has been articulated in the reports on the crime rates of 1953 and 2006 provided by the National crime records Bureau (NCRB) that various types of crimes have drastically increased over the period. These include robbery (increased by 120%), riots (increased by 176 %), and murder (increased by 31%) and kidnapping increased the most by 356%.

A criminal case left in doldrums or a convict on the loose points inevidently against the police. In many cases, the accusation is right though but then there are subordinates who work for late hours, or on off days, there have been dutiful officers who even gave away their lives. Hence the cause of neglected crimes is not always the police. Infact, the statistics on allocation of vacancies show that there is something wrong on the part of government as well.

Despite the superlative degree of crime in India, there is only 1 cop for every 663 civilians while it was supposed to be 1 for every 518 as per the govt. sanction.  On the other hand, 56009 police personnel have been allocated to 20828 VIPs which means 2.5 cops for every VIP. In a highly populated country like India where its youth is striving for employment, 21% of sanctioned posts are still lying vacant in the police department. Can anyone answer?

Blaming only the police all the time cannot compensate for the apathy of government reforms nor can it provide the minimum security that an Indian needs to be safe.

Our administration is such that it is making diligent efforts to regularize the attendance of the government officials by spending exorbitant costs on bio-metric machines but does not do anything about the road traffic, the actual root cause. There seems to be a need to awaken the administration to strengthen the police staff first which shall not only bring the conviction rate in control but also increase the employment status of India.
